Wae Rebo Village is located in Satar Lenda, West Satar Mese District, Manggarai Regency, Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. This village is known by the traditional house of Manggarai Tribe which is consist of 7 custom house named as Mbaru Niang. Mbaru Niang has cone shape with diameter around 12 – 15 meters and 8 – 10 height. Path of the roof is dangle and almost covering the house. The house itself is made from certain grasses and coated by ijuk or palm fiber from the sugar palm in order to have strong condition as the wind and water attack the house. Geographically, the village is situated above an altitude of 1.200 meters above sea level. Wae Rebo Village ever got a reward from UNESCO for the conservation of culture heritage in 2013 years ago. The local residents still defend the tradition and culture from generation to generation.
Visitor will do trekking under the rainforest to arrive at the village. There are some rule should be followed for when arrive at the village. Local tour guide and local porter will lead the visitor.
Spider Web Rice or known as Cancar Spider Rice Fields is located in Manggarai Regency, Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Timur Province, Indonesia. Its only 17 kilo meters west from the capital city of the regency. Manggarai tribe has unique way in divided land for family or per sub tribe in the village. Head of the village will be the one who be devider Per Moso (moso means hand’s finger) is that way. The land calls Lingko which its round form and boundary of land by using per moso will look like spider net.
The tour can be start from Labuan Bajo or Ruteng and should be end in Labuan Bajo (there is daily flight Labuan Bajo to Bali and Jakarta). In the itinerary below we start it from Labuan Bajo.
Day 1. Labuan Bajo Town – Denge Village – Wae Rebo Village (Lunch/Dinner)
Our team agency (professional local tour guide and driver) will pick up visitor from Komodo Airport or hotel. Local tour guide will welcome and inform a short briefing about the tour then drive to Denge Village where the starting point of trekking to Wae Rebo Village. Its take 5 to 6 hours From Labuan Bajo to Denge Village. The car will stop in Denge Village then using motorcycle to the starting point of trekking. There will be local porter to help the visitor passes the rainforest to the village. The visitor can catch the unique traditional house of Manggarai Tribe in picture after ceremonial welcoming in Mbaru Niang and enjoy the day and a night with the native. Dinner will be provided in the village.
Day 2. Wae Rebo Village – Denge Village – Spider Web Rice – Labuan Bajo Town
Breakfast will be provided by native. Sunrice is late in the village usually at 6:30 am. After catch more picture and interact with native then back to Denge Village where the car’s parking. Lunch at Denge Village. Afterward, drive to Spider Web Rice to see terrace rice field. Take some picture and back to Labuan Bajo.
